7th ASIA-PACIFIC SOCIAL SCIENCE AND MEDICINE CONFERENCE (APSSAM)
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Abstracts are being accepted for the 7th Asia-Pacific Social Science and Medicine Conference
(APSSAM) to be held on October 20-22, 2008, in Manila, Philippines.
FORMAT OF SUBMISSIONS
Abstract submissions may be in the form of any of the following:
(1) individual oral paper presentation,
(2) individual poster presentation, or
(3) focused paper for thematic group discussions.
Individual Papers and Posters
Individual papers may be presented orally or by poster. Oral presentations will be given in
parallel sessions, grouped by category topic. Each oral presentation will have a total time
slot of 15 minutes (10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for the open forum).
A definitive time of one and a half hours per day will be given to poster presentations.
During this period, the presenter will be beside his/her poster to answer any queries from
the participants.
Focused Papers for Thematic Group Discussions
These are round table discussions of particular topics of interest. Related submissions
will be collated and assigned into one session. A leader is assigned to begin the session
with a short presentation about the topic which is then followed by a group discussion.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1. Abstracts can be submitted electronically through

2. Abstracts are to be submitted in English, the official language of the 7th APSSAM.
3. Abstracts must contain the following:
- Full First Name
- Family Name
- Institution Affiliation
- Address (City/Country)
- Tel No
- E-mail Address
- Type of presentation
- oral presentation
- poster presentation
- focused idea for thematic group discussions
- Title.
- Authors, institutional affiliations. Name of presenting author must be underlined.
- Brief background and rationale.
- Objectives of the study.
- Methodology (research design, study sites, sampling, instrumentation,
data-collection, data analysis, ethical considerations)
- Significant results.
- Conclusions and recommendations
4. Abstracts should contain no more than 700 words. Do not include references,
charts or graphs. No attachments will be accepted
